Honey We’re Home!

And it feels SO Good. Don’t get me wrong, I love family and we’re really grateful to have had such a beautiful Christmas. But there is something about being in your own space that is downright comforting. So even though it is a complete disaster in our house we’re thankful for this little mess of a box.

Now we just have to find a spot to put all of our new Christmas loot! We got ALMOST everything in the car…we had to leave a cooler for next time.

We even managed to save a little spot for Lexus, although she was not pleased about having to share the back seat. Did you spot Ryan’s brand spankin new shop vac, an old ladder and a variety of other equally cool goodies? It’s like a crazy where’s Waldo. Don’t worry, we’re ready to put them to good use! So over the next few days we’ll be de-christmasing the casa, breaking out the new goods and making our new years goals. Stay tuned, there is nothing like new toys to inspire some serious renovation.

Merry Mailings

We’re in the middle of our own rendition of “Four Christmases” over here, but we didn’t want to forget about you! For our last Favorite Goodies we wanted to share something small that brings us a whole lot of joy!

So we’ve included our very own Christmas Card below to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Of course our card would be nothing without a sillytacular photo. While I may be a tad biased, I’m sure there is nothing quite like a holiday photo experience with Studio ATG and if you’re looking for a little time to burn between Christmas presents and honey baked ham check out the Studio ATG Blog for a whole lot more craziness.

And for those of you that shared your holiday goodness with us… Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Every Christmas Card we received was its own present and really gave us that warm gooey feeling inside.

So please rip that paper, munch those cookies, and enjoy your time with your loved ones. We’ll be back after the food coma subsides with a whole lot more house, food, and random goodness.

Four Favorite Goodies and a WINNER!

It’s Thursday the 22st of December! Is your crazy self at the mall? Yeah, we’re not either. But by the time I get half way through the rest of my wrapping and realize what gift cards I forgot to buy I’m sure I’ll be back there too.

But onto more important matters!  We have FOUR favorite things for today and most importantly these are goodies you can buy in store! So for those of you crazy chickens running around the mall like your head is cut off fear not…these items are relatively easy to aquire.

1. Blue Capri Candles in Volcano (Sold at Anthropologie in a variety of sizes) and this time of year they even offer these candles in a red jar for those who want to be all festively correct. I know a candle doesn’t sound like the most exciting gift, but once you smell these puppies you’ll understand.

2. Bodum Columbia French Press. I LOVE my french press. It was a gift last Christmas and has been a staple in our morning routine ever since. You may have noticed from previous pictures that we also have a Keurig. Unfortunately we only use our Keurig for hot water. Yeah, it’s the most expensive water warmer ever. Yes, I own a tea kettle. I know….no words.

3. JR Watkins Hand Soap. So besides the obvious gorgeous packaging these natural home cleaning products are an absolute dream! Super gentle solutions and great scent. Even better, they’re crazy affordable at places like Target.

4. Frans Smoked Salt Carmels. Nuff’ said. During our trip to Seattle this year we discovered Frans and have never looked back. While their website is no longer accepting Holiday orders (They’re that good people) I happen to know that you can aquire these goodies at places like Sur la Table and Whole Foods. You’ll thank me later…although warning: they’re like pringles. Once you pop it’s all over.

Now I have to apologize for the delay on our contest winner. You see…due to some serious scheduling conflicts and travel plans Ryan and I had a mini-christmas last night. So while I should have been posting our salt winner I was elbow deep in homemade lasagna. Don’t believe me? That’s okay, I brought proof.

Needless to say it was shockingly good. When you consider I spent almost 5 hours preparing it (including making my own ricotta!) it had better have been the most amazing lasagna of our lives. Which it was.

Back to the important matter at hand. Drum Roll? Bada bada bada… I’m horrible at sound effects in person too. Our Salt winner according to Random.org is….

Congratulations Shannon! You’ve got yourself a new jar of Fancy Pants 4S Salt. Just in time to whip up some delicious dishes for the Holidays!

All That Glitters

We interrupt this love fest of our favorite goodies for a little Holiday Cheer. I’ve been so immersed in the bathroom chaos that I almost lost the chance to whip up a few ornaments for this Holiday Season. I love tying ornament bulbs on top of packages or even gifting them alone.

While browsing pintrest a few weeks ago (yeah, I’m addicted) I found these glitter-tastic “ornies” and figured a project this seemingly simple couldn’t be missed. So Shannon stopped by and we got our craft on. Yeah, craft…mess…it’s all the same thing.

And yes, before you ask, the wine was an integral part to the ornament creating process.

On to the goods… as instructed, we made sure to get the correct floor wax and coated the inside of the bulb. Then it was as simple as adding glitter (through an old kitchen funnel) and swirling. Then PRESTO! Insta – Glitter Bomb!

Ryan ventured into the crafting mess momentarily and seemed VERY concerned until he learned that all the glitter remains in the bulb. Once we had clearance from the boss we continued. While the bulbs dried we got to creating bows using the fold and tie method. Essentially fold layers of ribbon and tie center with smaller ribbon. Insta-Glitter Bomb Bow!

We didn’t just stick with black and cheetah…although I’m loving these girly ornaments for the ladies. We tried silver, white and even gold flaking!

If you’ve got ten minutes and pledge floor wax you’re good to go. We made over ten ornaments in no time! Stick on letters, rhinestones and even paint pens could also be used to give them a personalized touch! But for now I’m sticking with the Plain Janes.

On another note, it has been brought to my attention that I may be favoring one of my fur children above the other. So in honor of the man in the red suit we’re sharing a flash-back photo of Ryan and Lexus. This was taken back when she was a puppy and we used to subject her to ridiculous outfits. We’re way more kind these days.

Don’t forget there is still a little time left for our first giveaway! We’ve loved hearing about your favorite spices and can’t wait to gift someone a new jar of 4S soon.

Favorite Goodies…Part 2

Have you met Etsy? If you haven’t then you should. Etsy is an online marketplace devoted to everything handmade. I admit, I’ve found a few quirky items through Etsy but I’ve also found a few hidden gems too! One such nugget of goodness is these prints from Collage-O-Rama.

These crafty folks save old dictionaries and print images directly on the individual pages to create an upcycled piece of art! At $6.99 a pop they’re an absolute steal and there are tons of different options. They even have a buy three get one free deal going on right now! Which is how we ended up with these two…

You see I had intended to only get two prints for the kitchen…but then I was completly swayed at the idea of getting one FREE! Yes, I realize I had to buy a third one, but the fourth one was FREE! I love me some free.

Once framed they look like you spent way more than $6.99! These fun prints hang on the wall between our kitchen and living room. We’re still trying to find a home for the images above, but we’re confident we’ll come up with something! Frames from Aaron Brothers.

So what do you think? Books are for reading, not printing? Anything with “Om nom nom” is gold? Too busy with Christmas preparations to think? We feel your pain.

Psssst! There is still a whole day left to enter our GIVEAWAY! It’s free salt people and it’s fancy-fancy salt too!

Favorite Goodies and a Give-A-Way!

Everybody has their favorites. Favorite restaurant, favorite movie, favorite color and in honor of the rapidly approaching holidays we’re sharing our favorite goodies with you! That’s right, just like the Sound of Music or Queen O these are a few of our favorite things. I also feel like it is important to note that no one is bribing us to say good things about their products. We just have some serious love in our hearts for these items and wanted to share.

So let’s get this holiday countdown started with some serious spice. Literally. A while back I was gifted a box of Penzey’s Spices. Since I love to cook I considered it an incredibly thoughtful gift. Little did I know this unassuming little box was going to rock my culinary world!

I should have expected greatness when I opened the box to find the spices packaged in cinnamon sticks, bay leafs and nutmeg! Major score!

While ALL of their spices are absolutely bomb-diggity. (Yup, I went there) our favorite, hands down is the Four S. Burgers, French Fries, Breakfast Potatoes, Steak, Pork Chops are all a bagillion times better with 4 S.

We’re so fond of Penzey’s that when it came time to order holiday gifts we knew exactly where to go. Even after a crazy long week, a box of Penzey’s just makes me smile.

That’s not all! In honor of our favorite goodies and holiday gifting we’re having our first GIVE-A-WAY!! Woot Woot!

The Details: We’re giving away one (1) 4 ounce jar of Penzey’s 4S. The giveaway closes on Wednesday, December 21st at 12:01pm. The winner will be determined via random.org. Prize ships anywhere in the USA. To enter comment below and tell us: What is your Favorite Spice? One entry per person.

Lets talk Chalk

Who doesn’t like chalkboards? They’re like bagels or chocolate. It’s unnatural. I’m not sure if it is nostalgia or just whimsy, but chalk is fun. Some of you might be great sidewalk chalk muralists while others prefer to keep your chalkboard connection to menus in french restaurants. But either way, we’re jumping on the chalk train.

We have a hard time sticking to a schedule, hence the missed post yesterday. I know…horrible… I apologize. Don’t worry, keep your eyes peeled for a giveaway coming soon as my real apology. Focus, back to chalk!

So we thought that if we had a place to keep our weekly meal plan in plain sight we just might be more willing to stick to it? Yeah, that sentence deserves a question mark at the end.

Naturally we weren’t willing to shell out the cash for one of those fancy shamncy chalkboards when there were so many great “do it yourself” examples online. So we went off in search of a frame. We knew we wanted to hang the board on the side of our refrigerator built in where it would be easily visible and had plenty of surrounding room so it could be revised on a weekly basis. The only problem was finding a frame that was long and narrow.

After going through tons of picture frames and rejecting most because of their width or more often than not cost we came upon this little beauty at Target. Love me some Target.

Target Hall Mirror

Yes, I know. Technically it is a mirror, but not for long! Ryan removed the mirror flipped it over and I went to town rolling on chalkboard paint. While I was creating a fabulously smooth chalkboard surface Ryan was busy upgrading the color of the frame. We chose RustOleum Heritage Red…mainly because it would stick to our mirror frame (it’s plastic!) and because we loved the cap color. Yeah, I know…lame.

1. Paint – RustOleum, Heritage Red 2. Valspar Chalkboard Paint

And voila! Please ignore the ridiculous amounts of finger prints on the side of my fridge. To be honest I didn’t even know they were there until I saw this…gross.

In case you were wondering, they’re hung up there with one of the genius 3M hangers on each corner so hopefully one day when the chalkboard finds a new home it will come off clean. Fingers crossed!

So far our chalkboard is a hit and it has definitely created a bit more structure to our meal plans. Plus it lets me play with chalk once a week and really, that alone is worth it.

Seasonal Brews

I have a confession. We’re beer snobs.

While Ryan has had the entire beer transformation from grocery store brews out of a can to craft rarities I just started at the top. So besides an empty wallet what does our secret love leave us with? Bottles! Fancy pants, craft labely (My word, don’t judge) bottles. And while there are TONS of projects out there for wine bottles the beer family has yet to really represent. So without further delay, let’s start with a simple, show me your bottle display.

Before we get onto our winter brews let’s take a look back at fall… Ryan had been waiting to crack this puppy open for a while and once I saw the label I knew we could put it to good use.

So along with a small Stone growler and a few “Pumpkin Trees” I picked up from Whole Foods we had ourselves some table decor that really Hops. Get it, Pops…Hops… okay that one was for me.

After looking at it a while we decided the two bottles looked a bit lonely. A situation that was easily remedied.

During the halloween to thanksgiving transition we actually switched out the Pumpkin Trees for Wheat and had a beautiful harvest display…see so versatile. We were digging the three bottle look so much that for the winter season we saved up a number of cool selections for a little variety in choices. I love options. I was going to spray our favorites with white spray paint but then I saw the  Delirium Tremens bottles and fell in LOVE!

They’re all ready this beautiful ceramic coated goodness. Simply remove the label and Tada! Gorgeous! We added some sparkly twigs from Michaels to finish off the look.

All in we probably spent $5 on the twigs with a %50 off coupon. I love me some coups. Of course if you live anywhere besides the desert..ahem. You could probably just walk outside and gather some twigs of your own. All I have here is rocks…nice rocks…but rocks all the same. I’m also not counting the beer as we were going to buy that decor or no.

So what do you think? Stesha please stop showcasing your drinking? Motivated to grab a few bottles of your own? Know any amazing Sour ales? We’re all ears!

PS…I know your out there question readers. I squeal every morning I see how many people have stopped by. So show some love…give us a little banter. Or am I going to have to do a giveaway to get some responses? I’m not above bribery.

Words from the Wise

Morning All,

I’ve come to a not-so-surprising conclusion. This bathroom “mini-model” is now a full fledged remodel. We’re not quite finished up, but the changes are night and day and not just because the new deep blue makes you feel like there should be stars on the ceiling. But before we show you the newest update we have a fun project to deck our walls! Oh yeah, Holiday reference number one.

We snagged some mismatched frames from our local Home Goods for about $75. After a fresh coat of white spray paint courtesy of Ryan, the new expert painter we were in matchy matchy heaven.

Then with a little design inspiration from pintrest, a free download from How Joyful and some serious love for Adobe Illustrator we had ourselves the perfect prints!

Even Addie has her favorite.  We arranged and rearranged all of the frames until we had them just so and finally got to hanging them up on the freshly painted walls.

So what do our fancy pants word prints say?

1. Carpe the hell out of this diem 2. If we all did the things we are capable of doing we would literally astound ourselves. 3. I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night. 4. If you don’t like where you are then change it. You are not a tree. 5. Please let me be the person my dog thinks I am. 6. Comparison is the thief of joy (Design by How Joyful)

Every time I go in there they make me smile, but what do you think? Too many words for one wall? What are some of your favorite sayings? Loving Joy’s design? (Us too!)

And because I promised an updated photo of the bathroom!

We’ve got a whole lot of Holiday Cheer up in here!

Morning All,

I’ve officially re-written this post three times now.  You see, I’ve been trying to find a way to show you my Christmas decorations without looking like a total nut-job. Now I’m starting to feel like the true nutcase is going to shine through no matter what and I’m striving for honesty, so here goes…

Our Family Room Christmas Tree in all her nostalgic glory…

We just upgraded this year from a 5′ to a 6.5′ courtesy of Lowes fabulous Black Friday special. Oh yeah, pre-lit this baby was only $49. So as you can tell from my burgandy and gold only tree I am a complete control freak when it comes to Christmas decorations. I admit that I get an unnatural feeling of satisfaction knowing that all of the ornaments have gold ribbon hangers.

And yes, that little cloud in the left hand picture is my twenty-something year old baby ornament. That thing is a trooper.

Even though we have a relatively small home we can’t have just one tree. Oh no no, that won’t do. So now for the cool kid…aka the Parlor Tree. This Helga of a tree was an after Christmas buy from Target that I HAD to have a few years back. Needless to say I would have expired without it. Thank Goodness Ryan took me seriously and we have had this fine specimen ever since.

Yes, the packaging and ribbon matches the tree. No, I’m not going to apologize for my type A personality.

And how about a little sock lovin?

So that’s the majority of our Merry-Tastic decor. I’m sure one day I won’t have the energy or the patience to go all crazy for the holiday season. But until then we’re excited to share all of our seasonal goodness with you!
