LOCAL LOVE: The OC Mix

I discovered a place where you can find phenomenal coffee, specialty pasties, succulents in every crevice, a Farmer’s Market (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and a peaceful seat in the sun. I’m talking about The OC Mix or The OC Mart Mix (the names seem to be interchangeable). Scroll through the photos below and tell me you don’t want to go there. Just go ahead and try…

You can take a look at what they offer in the dining and shopping area HERE.

If you go, let me know what you think. Better yet, tell me what you try. There is no way to experience everything The OC Mix has to give in one trip. However, together, I think we can tackle it.

I’m thoroughly enjoying SoCal at the moment…

Pie Angel

I have a Pie Angel – her name is Chai and she was definitely my Hero of the Week.

Admittedly, I wasn’t trying to rant about my intense cravings for Key Lime Pie in the 28 Week “Bump Update” although looking back it totally appears that way. I mean, talk about a crazy pregnant girl. But my Pie Angel clearly spotted the desperation in my text. On Thursday last week I opened my door, somewhat unexpectedly to the UPS man and a medium sized box. Had I forgotten about something I ordered? Wouldn’t be the first time…

And let’s face it, when your life is as exciting as mine these days (Ahem…) receiving packages is easily the highlight of the day. So I tore into the cardboard with gusto and you should have seen the surprise when I discovered a PIE! A PIE! A real, cold, perfectly wrapped Key Lime Pie. I honestly couldn’t believe it.

As you can see the pie came with strict instructions. I’m definitely not one to bend the rules, and because you never know when you might need some heavy whipped cream I just happened to have the ingredients for homemade whipped cream on hand. Oh don’t you look at the screen that way – doesn’t everyone stock heavy whipping cream in their fridge these days “Just in Case”?

So I got to whipping…

And eating… and yes, it was magical.

We’re not going to discuss how much pie is or is not left, let’s just say it was throughly enjoyed. Every. Last. Bite.

What about you? Do you have a “Pie” Angel? Did someone purchase your coffee at Starbucks? Hold the door open when your hands were full? Surprise you with exactly what you were craving? Share the good juju! Lord knows we could all use a pick me up.

28 WEEKS

We made it to the Third Trimester!! THANK THE SWEET LORD!

Reality is starting to set in and yesterday in order to really prepare for our upcoming delivery the dear husband and I took a “Maternity Ward” tour at our local hospital. I made it about one third of the way through the tour before passing out. I kid you not.

Pregnancy 101, Stesha 0

Thankfully I learned just how kind the nurses were firsthand and now we’re very curious to hear the results from my glucose test this past week. Until then, how about a little picture so you can see the GINORMOUS bump growing on the front of my body.

The Good Dr. says I’m measuring right on… but seriously, that bump is huge

… and it’s only getting bigger.

A Love Letter from Lindsey

I cannot imagine this past year without breakfast bantering. I look forward to sharing tidbits of my life each week (mostly…we all miss the mark sometimes) and am honored that I can. On here. With YOU. You guys encourage me to be sociable when I want to stay home, by myself, with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey and watch reruns of Gilmore Girls.

Stesha, you are a wonderful blogging partner that keeps me on my toes. Talk about a creative and determined person! Not to mention welcoming me into your lovely Las Vegas home numerous times and showing me around town…even in the midst of fighting pregnancy exhaustion! Are you kidding me?!?! You’re a ROCKSTAR! The little sprout on the way is a lucky man!

The point? I love Breakfast Banter, I love YOU!

I do have ONE wish for all of us: that we would interact more. This multimedia-socialmedia world is tricky! We can feel connected without really being connected. Let’s change it. Let’s connect. Let’s talk.

Tell us where you brunch, what you’re reading, how you rejuvenate, when your next vacation is. We will write back.

Thanks for the ride…and many more to come!

Lots of love,

Be Artistic…or Just Doodle

Do you ever feel like you just need to pick up some crayons and doodle on the nearest scrap piece of paper, napkin, or coffee cup? You should! No matter how old you are, being creative has huge benefits. Doodling can relieve stress, clear the mind, and create life changing ideas (at least I think so).

Crayon and paper for me are like a deep tissue massage for others.

Get yourself the BIG box of Crayolas; the one with 100 different colors (including metallics) you always wanted in third grade. You deserve it! Heck, pick out an old fashioned coloring book while you’re at it. I know you know who Spongebob is ;)

Let’s doodle us a better world! Happy Monday.

21 Weeks

Well at 21 weeks down and 19ish to go we’re SO, SO, so, so, so, excited to share that our little Sprout is a BOY!

Having it confirmed at 13, 16, and again at 21 weeks I feel pretty confident going hog wild in the little boys section at Baby Gap. (Lord they’re making a killing off me…)

And it’s a good thing we’ve got that piece of goodness to share, because otherwise things have been rough around these parts. After Ryan’s week long battle with some kind of nasty cold/flu/grossness resulted in a trip to Urgent Care (he’s looking much better now) and our drying machine took a turn for the worse and a frustrating ultrasound we’re about ready to send up the white flag.

But tomorrow is a new week and with this promising spring weather teasing us the past few days I’m determined to make it a good one.

See you soon,

Following Through: Lindsey

I don’t know if you remember my New Year’s Resolutions or not, but they are really just completing tasks that weigh me down. I’m excited to tell you that I followed through on the most important one: visiting my pop (grandpa) whom I hadn’t seen for over a year. That is just unacceptable. Come on. I can’t go a day without coffee but I can go an entireĀ  year without seeing a man I have known my entire life??? My priorities are a bit out of whack.

I made the hour and a half drive out to Apple Valley, turned down their dirt road, and walked into a warm and welcoming hallway covered in family photos.

Sitting on the same maroon velvet couch I curled up on with my glow-worm when I was two, my pop filled me in on what all 9,000 of my cousins are up to, what he’s been building with his own two hands, and his recent doctor visits, all of which were positive. He recently turned 80 and is on less medications than many 50-year-olds I know. I’m crossing my fingers that my health takes after his.

This trip was a Saturday well spent and a reminder of how much people are a part of my life even when I don’t physically them often. Every time I see a Louis L’amour book on a shelf in a thrift store I smile knowing that my pop has read everyone more than once. Maybe I got my love of reading from him? Just maybe.

Isn’t he the cutest? I think so.

Life is better when we follow through. How have you followed through with something this week?

A Wish for a Wonderful Day and Happy Year!

There are only a few more hours to wish our Lindsey a very Happy Birthday!

So join in a big blog rendition of that celebratory song and show her some love!

Much Love Friend!

Feeling Crafty: Simple Valentines

Valentines Day and I have an on-off relationship. Literally.

Ryan and I decided early on we would alternate Valentines Day… one year for him with pizza and beer, and the next year for me with all out ridiculous devotions of love. I mean all out, no pressure.

But somewhere around year 7 or 8 we started to loose track of who’s year it was. I can’t believe it either – how disappointed I am in myself for overlooking an occasion for glitter and good food? But the truth is most nights we were just happy to have a night off, alone and without stress.

BUT NOW … dun dun dun… with another someone in the picture my love of Holidays is coming back full force. I almost cried in the supermarket last week when I saw peeps and realized I would be able to make Easter Baskets for Baby next year. Hello Hormones.

So what have I done with my renewed interest and additional time (time that has been specifically reserved for rest) I make Valentines. Boom. Just like third grade, sans the candy. Mind you they were only missing candy because I didn’t want to change out of my pajamas to make an extra trip to the store… and I wasn’t about to share my new bag of Starbursts. Oh hells no.

The best part about my little endeavor: no cost. That’s right – I had 20 pink cards and envelopes just laying around my craft closet waiting for such an occasion. How’s that for planning or hoarding… your call.

Add a fun design and a little printer magic and voila!

Did you send out Valentines this year? Any uber-romantic plans for tonight? I’ll be home making pretzel and pastrami sandwiches for the sweetie… and next year I’m looking forward to my first year with two valentines!

Love From,

Who Needs an “Aww” Moment?

I do. I do!

Because between the nausea, pelvic pains and tightening yoga pants (how are those things getting tight? They’re literally the stretchiest pants known to man) things are really looking glum from my view. Sure, we’re going to end up with an adorable chubby cheeked youngster, but that’s like seven months away. Right now I’m stuck in bed with a sore everything.

So let’s crack open the vault on sweet baby moments that I’ve been saving up for just such an occasion…

Moment number 1 – How do you look when you find out you’re going to be a Grandma again with lucky number 3? (My nieces making up numbers 1 and 2)

Apparently something like this:

Aww.

See, I told you it was a sweet “Aww” moment.

Happy Monday folks,
